Teeth Whitening the Tray and Gel method
Just a little insight into how teeth whitening works. Think of enamel like a window that covers the inner bone (dentin) of the tooth. We all have pores (tubules) in our enamel and over time particles or stain cover over the enamel, migrating down through the pores to stain the surface of the inner bone. Whitening gel, when applied to the surface area of the tooth will over a period of time will dissolve the stain.
We all have different tooth bone colour too, it’s creamy white, not pure white. So, with this in mind the end result will reflect upon your bone’s natural shade, the number of pores you have and the level of stain. Knowing this please be realistic with your outcome. It’s going to be great but not dazzling high glare white!
The trays are to prevent saliva and the underside of your lips from rubbing the gel off. Some procedures say pop a dab directly into the tray, I believe painting it directly onto the tooth surface is far more effective and you are less likely to get the gel on your gums.
There are two types of gel systems, this is a 15-minute day time application.
Enamel Safety
As I’m aware there’s no evidence to say overuse will damage the enamel, in fact drinking orange juice is way more damaging and that’s proven! I have been whitening my teeth for 20 years and no damage present, in fact the opposite. I have healthy gums because the gel kills off microbes living just below the tooths gum line.
I’m in my 50’s, British and as a true Brit I drink gallons of tea. Caffeine creates stain, so I use this system as a top up for roughly 4 days every 6 months. I think if you pay the dollars and work towards getting whiter teeth you are more inclined to look after them. And it’s true, whiter teeth do give a healthy more youthful look, and with an added health benefit. So, there are many healthy pluses, right?
Outcomes and keeping your Teeth and yourself Healthy
Everyone’s tooth shade is different, some will whiten super white, and some will not so much but after 8 days you will certainly see an amazing difference. The gel will not whiten crowns or white fillings; it will however remove stain.
If you get tooth or gum sensitivity, give the process a rest until it passes. Use Sensodyne toothpaste, by rubbing it into the tooth surface with a clean finger or cotton tip. If prolonged sensitivity is a problem, then stop using the product.
You are using this high-grade product AT YOUR OWN RISK. Be smart about applying the gel, be smart about how many days you use it for and if no real sensitivity issue occurs then you will see whiter teeth emerge.
That’s super exciting.
Now take care of them. Floss morning and night. Use an oscillating toothbrush, and don’t scrub hard at your gums!
See a dentist and a hygienist, its important not only for your tooth health but for your overall health.
As with all things cosmetic you are using this product at your own risk.
